CAIN SCITT Evidence Clearinghouse, explained for beginners
The SCITT clearinghouse gives every recorded statement a receipt that proves it was not changed later.
What it is
When companies exchange evidence (a build passed, an agent action happened), each side wants proof the record was not changed later.
The clearinghouse appends each statement to a log built as a Merkle tree, the structure used by Certificate Transparency, and returns a receipt: the entry, its position and the tree's root. Change any entry later and the proof no longer matches.
An everyday comparison
A notary's numbered ledger: entries can be added, never quietly rewritten.
How it works, in 4 steps
- Submit a statement.
- It is appended to the log.
- You get a receipt with the Merkle root.
- Anyone can re-check the receipt later.
