AETHER-33, explained
How the memory works, what it refuses to do, and the numbers from a real run.
16 pages. Every statement is either implemented in cain-microservices/aether33/ or labelled as a limit.
What AETHER-33 isGoverned memory for autonomous agents: deterministic recall, injection quarantine, hash-chained provenance, tombstoned deletes, contradiction flags, and an authority firewall that memory can never cross.
The write path, step by stepNine deterministic steps from text to a chained, annotated row. Every step is exercised by an invariant.
Recall: deterministic Okapi BM25k1=1.5, b=0.75, frozen stopwords, stable tie-breaks. The same corpus and query produce the same ranking, forever.
Quarantine: instructions are not memoriesText that tries to instruct the model is stored, quarantined, and withheld until the tenant's reviewer releases it.
Provenance and the hash chainEvery write gets a chained SHA-256 entry per tenant. Edits and truncation both fail verification.
Deletion is a tombstoneDelete erases the content, its tags, source and text hash but keeps the row and the chained entry — so deletion itself is provable.
Contradiction flags, not verdictsLexical overlap plus opposite negation marks a conflict for a human. It never picks a winner.
The authority firewallEvery memory view and every recall response is annotated non-authoritative. There is no API that makes it otherwise.
Tenant isolationThe owner key is a hash of the caller's key. Every query filters on it. There is no cross-tenant code path.
The 33 invariantsThirty-three checks executed against the real engine and a real database. An exception is a failure, not a pass.
Using AETHER-33 from an agentHTTP and MCP. Works with LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, the OpenAI Agents SDK, Claude Code or a plain script.
Limits and honest scopeWhat AETHER-33 does not do, stated plainly. These are not roadmap promises.
Measured numbersLatency and correctness from a real run on the host that built this page. Not a production benchmark.
Free until 1 January 2027The hosted preview is free, rate-limited per visitor, and changes on 2027-01-01 UTC. No card, no key.
Sparselogic: what it is, and what it is notA Verilog-to-FPGA synthesis service in this repo. It is not a memory system and not a non-von-Neumann fabric.
Questions people actually askShort answers, including the ones that end in “no”.
AETHER-33 is a product over CAIN-42's governed-memory stack, not a new architecture moat.
Memory never carries authority: every response is annotated
