Isn't this just a signature with extra steps?

No. One signature proves one server signed. A quorum certificate proves 3 of 4 independently keyed validators agreed on the same digest at the same place in one ordered log. One lying validator cannot produce one.

You run all four validators. So what does Byzantine tolerance buy me?

Protection against one validator being faulty, compromised or wrong. It does not protect you against us as the operator of all four. That is the biggest limit, and independent operators are how to fix it.

Why must I pin?

Because a forger can build a cluster of their own that agrees with itself perfectly. The pin is how you say which cluster you trust. We learned this the hard way on 2026-11-02; see the upgrade page.

Do you see my data?

No. You send a SHA-256 digest. We never see what it is a hash of.

Is the timestamp certified?

No. The sequence number is certified; issued_at is not.

How fast is it?

About 2.6 seconds per digest today. It is built for evidence, not for the hot path of a request.

Is this certified or audited?

No. Every test on these pages is ours.
