Soak tests and honest verdicts
A soak test runs the cluster under load for a long, fixed period (CAIN targets 72 hours) and checks every checkpoint for divergence and liveness.
Report the run as it happened: hours completed, checkpoints passed, divergences, and why it stopped. A run that died at 48 hours is not a 72-hour pass, even with zero divergences.
Never let a shorter run's PASS be quoted as the longer test's result.
Key points
- Fixed duration, per-checkpoint checks.
- Report hours, checkpoints, divergences, stop reason.
- 48 h with 0 divergences ≠ 72 h pass.
