Latency, data planes and trade-offs
Consensus costs time. CAIN's hosted decision path waits for one PBFT round per call unless the quorum-committed authorization-snapshot data plane is enabled, which cuts the consensus stage from seconds to under a millisecond.
The trade-off: snapshots are committed by the quorum ahead of time, then read locally; freshness is bounded by the snapshot cadence.
Explain latency honestly to buyers: inline prompt filters are faster; the price of quorum evidence is time.
Key points
- Per-call consensus = seconds.
- Snapshot data plane = sub-millisecond reads, bounded freshness.
- Be honest: quorum evidence costs time.
